Unions demand boycott of Israeli products
The Oslo Transportworkers' Union and the Oslo Metalworkers' Union are urging Norwegian grocery stores to stop selling Israeli goods, in protest against Israel's military offensive on the West Bank. Vice Chairman of the Metalworkers' Union, Boye Ullmann says to NRK that what is now happening in the Middle East is aggravating to the point where the unions feel a responsibility to react.
He says that Norwegian unions have a tradition of boycotting regimes that supress weaker groups, pointing to earlier boycotts of the regime in South Africa.
The Oslo Transportworkers' Union is threatening to stop all distribution of fruit and vegetables from Israel, if the importers don't stop the import of these products.
